  • Cook the lentils on a medium to low heat add the turmeric and stock cube, 2-3 cups water to 1 cup lentils. Add water whenever it is required.
  • Skim off any scum floating on the surface, or the dhal can turn bitter.
  • Cook until it turns soft.
  • Sauté chopped onion until lightly golden and translucent. then add the ginger, garlic and cumin.
  • Add the ground coriander, garam masala, curry leaves, and dry chiles at this stage.
  • Combine with the cooked lentils.
