Ertjiesop met skaapvleis (pea and mutton soup)

Ingredients

  • Stew mutton
  • 1 Pack dry peas
  • Large onion
  • Celery
  • Carrots
  • Potatoes
  • Stock cubes

Method

  • Put the dry peas in a bowl and fill it with water, place aside.
  • Cut of most of the fat. Salt the meat.
  • Heat a big pot or pressure cooker with a small amount of oil.
  • Seal and brown the meat.
  • Add the diced onion and brown.
  • Add the chopped celery. Also add the water. The water should cover the meat.
  • Add 2 stock cubes.
  • Boil till the meat is soft. - With a pressure cooker boil for 30 minutes.
  • Take the meat out and debone, add the flaked meat back into the pot.
  • Grate the carrots and potatoes and add it into the pot
  • Drain the peas and add it into the pot
  • Add add more water to cover everything.
  • Boil until the peas are cooked (you need to stir the pot and top up the water regularly to prevent it from burning).
